Vilma Santos, ‘Woman of Style and Substance’
Kabilang si Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto sa binigyan ng parangal ng People Asia magazine bilang isa sa mga Women of Style and Substance. Ginanap ang awarding ceremony noong Huwebes, September 6, sa Hotel Intercontinental, Makati City.

Para kay Gov. Vi, isang malaking karangal ang mapabilang sa mga kababaihan na namumukod-tangi ang kahusayan at katalinuhan sa kani-kanilang larangan. Kasama niyang pinarangalan bilang Women of Style and Substance sina Senator Loren Legarda; beauty expert Vicki Belo; actress-TV host Toni Gonzaga; race driver Gaby dela Merced; singer Sitti; lifestyle columnist Millet Mananquil; restaurateur Gaita Forres; lawyers Katrina Legarda and Rowena Bengzon; socialites-philanthropists Lizzie Zobel and Margarita Delgado; and news personalities Korina Sanchez, Vicky Morales, and Tintin Bersola-Babao.

"Hindi ko ito inaasahan at nagtataka nga ako kung bakit isa ako sa pinili nila," nakangiting pahayag ng actress-politician sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal). "Kung anuman ang reason na ‘yon, malaking tulong ito sa katayuan ko ngayon bilang governor ng Batangas. Nagpapatunay lang siguro na bilang isang babae, kaya natin ang kahit na anong trabaho. Maliit man o malaki, patuloy ang paglilingkod natin sa bayan."

LIFE AS A GOVERNOR Kinumusta rin ng PEP kay Vilma ang kanyang trabaho bilang bagong governor ng Batangas. Matatandaang naluklok sa puwesto ang aktres pagkatapos ng siyam na taong panunungkulan bilang mayor ng Lipa City.

"Very cooperative ang buong Batangas kaya naman patuloy ang pakikipag-usap ko sa maraming leaders doon para sa ikauunlad ng aming lalawigan. Sa magiging tatlong taon na pag-upo ko bilang governor ay sisikapin ko na maging maayos ang lahat. Kung ano ang expectations sa akin ng mga taga-Batangas, tutuparin ko ‘yon para sa ikaliligaya at ikatutuwa ng marami," saad ng gobernadora.

Idinagdag pa ni Gov. Vi na ang maganda pa raw ay nakasuporta sa kanya ang buong pamily niya. Hindi nga raw niya kakayanin ang ipagpatuloy ang kanyang political career kung wala ang kanyang pamilya sa tabi niya, lalung-lalo na ang kanyang kabiyak na si dating Senator Ralph Recto.

"Sila ang life support ko," ngiti ni Gov. Vi. "Without my family, baka hindi ko ito makakaya. Sa lahat ng pagsubok na dumating sa buhay ko, kasama ko ang aking pamilya. Kaya kapag tinatanong ako kung ano ang totoong priority ko, it's my family. Itong buhay ko as a politician ay puwedeng mawala, pero ang pamilya ko, nandiyan parati."

JOEY-WILLIE SPAT Samantala, hiningan din namin si Gov. Vi ng reaksiyon kaugnay ng naging sagutan ng mga TV hosts na sina Willie Revillame at Joey de Leon. Pareho kasing malapit sa puso niya ang dalawang nabanggit. Inaanak niya sa kasal si Willie samantalang matagal na niyang kaibigan si Joey.

Nalulungkot daw si Gov. Vi dahil maliit na raw ang mundo ng showbiz, pero bakit kailangan pang magkaroon ng ganitong klaseng hindi pagkakaunawaan.

"Mahal ko pareho sina Willie at Joey at alam kong mapagdadaanan nila lahat ito," sabi niya. "Simpleng misunderstanding lang ito. Pero I'm hoping na maayos nila ito kasi mahal ko silang dalawa.

"Itong pinagdadaanan ngayon nila Joey at Willie, this is nothing compared sa mga nangyayari sa politics. Kaya I'm praying that all will be well sa dalawa," pagtatapos ni Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto.
